Prince Hall School is named in honor of Prince Hall, an American Revolutionary, abolitionist, educator, minister, and businessman. A champion for equality and education, Hall helped establish one of the first public schools for Black children in Boston in 1798 and founded Prince Hall Freemasonry. His lifelong commitment to opportunity, leadership, and learning continues to inspire the school community today.

Prince Hall School opened in 1973 in Philadelphia’s West Oak Lane neighborhood. Originally planned to be named West Oak Lane School, community members successfully petitioned the School Board to name the school in honor of Prince Hall, making it the only school in the United States to bear his name.

For more than 50 years, Prince Hall School has served generations of students and families while fostering a culture of academic excellence, leadership, and community pride. Today, the school continues to honor Prince Hall’s legacy by empowering students to learn, lead, and make a positive impact on their communities.

School Day: 9:00 AM – 3:39 PM
Breakfast: 8:30 AM – 9:00 AM

Lunch/Recess:

• Kindergarten and Grade 1, Rooms 105 & 106: 11:00 AM – 11:45 AM
• Grades 2 and 3, Room 9: 11:45 AM – 12:30 PM
• Grades 4 and 5, Room 6: 12:30 PM – 1:15 PM

Out-of-School Time (OST)
Out-of-School Time (OST) is the time that a child or youth spends in after-school or summer programming. In Philadelphia, OST programs are provided for young people in grades K through 12.

Annual Notification of Rights under FERPA
The School District of Philadelphia is required to annually notify parents and eligible students of their rights under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). These rights include the right to inspect and review education records, request amendments, consent to disclosures, and file a complaint.

Students are expected to wear appropriate clothing at all times, including shirts, pants, shorts, dresses, skirts, and proper footwear.

Shirt/Top:
K–4: Light blue or navy blue tops
Grade 5: Green tops

Pants/Bottoms: Khaki
Footwear: Closed-toe shoes or sneakers

Not Permitted:

• Sandals or open-toed shoes

If a student violates the dress code:

• A parent/guardian may be contacted
• The school may provide loaner clothing, or request a change of clothes be brought to school
