Attendance Policy

The educational program offered by the School District is based upon the presence of the student and requires continuity of instruction and classroom participation.

♣ A note signed by a parent/caregiver must be brought to school after each absence indicating the dates and reasons for the absence.
♣ Absences will be coded “unexcused” if a note is not provided by the parent or caregiver.
♣ When a pupil is absent for three days due to illness, a written note from the doctor documenting the medical necessity for the absence must be brought to the school
unless the principal has verified that the absence is legitimate.
♣ Every effort must be made to make up work missed as a result of illness or other excused absence.
♣ Work missed because of absence can lower academic marks.  Students are responsible for making up work missed as a result of suspension or other means.
♣ When possible, a parent is to notify the school if a pupil is to be absent for several days.
♣ Unexcused lateness which causes a student to miss all or a substantial part of the day’s instructional time may be coded as an unexcused absence.

Late Arrivals

Children arriving after 8:30 a.m. are considered late.  If a student arrives after 8:30 a.m. during the Opening Exercises, that student is late and will be marked late by the classroom teacher.  If a student arrives after Opening Exercises, the student must report to the Main Office by way of the Main Entrance for a late slip before entering the classroom.

Student Early Dismissal

If your child needs to be dismissed early, he/she must bring a written note signed by the parent(s) stating the time and reason for the early dismissal.  Parents will then report to the office and sign your child our in the “Sign-Out Book.”  Your child will then be called to the office.  For the safety and security of your child, no child will be dismissed without an identified adult to accompany him/her.  An early dismissal, unless in an emergency, is permitted up until 30 minutes before the end of the school day.

School Uniform Policy

The dress code will be strictly enforced.  The following is accepted attire for Prince Hall Students:

Grades K-4: Light blue shirt and navy bottom with black shoes and/or dark sneakers only.

Grade 5 only: Green shirt (purchased from Prince Hall for $10) and navy bottom with black shoes and or dark sneakers only.

On gym days only – gym uniform:
Prince Hall Gym Shirt (Purchased by Home and School) or Blue Uniform Shirt.  Students may wear navy blue, royal blue or black sweatpants.

Discipline Policy

One of the most important lessons education teaches is self-discipline.  While it does not appear as a subject, it underlies the whole educational structure.  It is the training that develops self-control, character, orderliness, and character.  It is the key to good conduct and proper consideration for other people.  Students will be subject to progressive discipline that is explained in the School District of Philadelphia’s Student Code of Conduct.

Prince Hall family and students have developed school wide rules.

The student will know that all staff will enforce the same rules for all students.
One of the consequences for inappropriate behavior is a written assignment that must be signed by a parent.

Student detention is another consequence for inappropriate behaviors.
Students will also be referred to Saturday Morning Alternative Reach and Teach Program (SMART).

SMART is an alternative that can and will be used for students with excessive absences and out of school suspensions for Level I violations.

The Principal or designee will refer students to SMART.  Parents are required to attend the Saturday sessions with their child.
